Power Failure is a horrible thing. We do not realize how much we depend on our hydro to just be there and work for us until it is gone. Yesterday as I was sitting down to do my post all of a sudden the wind came up to 90 km per hour winds. Stuff was flying around off of various peoples balconies. Plastic bags, bottles and much more were being whipped up into the air. I decided well I will just take a shower and see what happens. While I was in the shower everything went dark.
I don’t know about you but that is a weird feeling when the lights go out and the bathroom door is closed. I got myself together, got dressed and thought hopefully this wont last too long wo I can get back to my blogging……..but that was not to be. Now this was at 11 am yesterday.
My wife was at work and the lights went out at her office which does not see the light of day. She stayed until 1 pm when they were told to go home for the day. So she came home and we did something really strange. We talked until the outside got dark….there I said it we talked. It wasn’t a commercial is on, let’s fit it in kind of talk but more in depth stuff that requires full attention. Next thing we knew it was bedtime. She was still going to get up this morning and go to work.
This morning we woke up early mainly because the power was still off and we had no idea what time it was. Thankfully I had an old cell phone fully charged on my bedside table as my regular one was dead.
She went to go to work but found out that the power was still out so she stopped at Timmies (Tim Horton’s for my American Friends) and met some of her work friends for coffee. They were told the office was closed today SOOOOOO……
We walked down to the mall (2 km each way….uphill in the snow) I picked up a Christmas Gift. Anyone who knows me knows that I hate malls at the best of times but this year was particularily annoying. I have never seen so many oblivious people who have their eyes on their phones and just walk in front of you or cut you off. Do we really have to be that connected?
We didnt know whether the power was back on so we stopped at Boston Pizza for a yummy lunch. (We are swearing off eating out in the New Year after all of the festivities are over) Then back home where I set up TSN to watch the Canada Slovakia game tonight at 5 pm………..Apparently the power came on sometime around 11 am.
